In the two workshops Eddie de Goër will offer to experiment with working on networks in order to explore together the relationship of the workshop participants to collectively created safety: “Where, how and to what extent do our relationships, networks and social structures (not) act as safety nets? Where do we experience networks as separating, where as connecting? What wishes and needs do we have for such networks, and (how) can they be mended and transformed?”

If gaps are what make a net… Is this net then determined by the role of its gaps? What differentiates a net-as-barrier from a net-as-carrier, and can one be turned into the other? Can the very making of a net generate structural insecurity? What does a safe net even look like? Does this differ from one person to the next? Which compromise to seek between stability and flexibility, between structure and fluidity? If, say, “The paradoxical, with a safety net — It’s not something that is external to you and holds you — You’re also part of the net”, what is your contribution to this net? And: can exploring material net-work(s) — through observation, intuition, conversations, and perhaps making or mending them — teach us something about the human net-work(s) we need to keep us safe?It is anticipated that the workshop 23rd November will focus more on personal experiences – working alone or in small groups – and on the 24th, it will be more about creating a network together as a group, exploring security through cooperation, consensus and compromise. Take part in both workshop days or just one!

Netmaking, regardless of the method, typically requires a careful handling of tension. Imbalances can affect the behavior of the mesh, the gaps, and the stability of the whole structure, and shifts in one point can easily be felt throughout the whole network. If creating the net from unstable anchor points — people, for instance —, all the trickier the play of tension, turning this collective netmaking into a playful opportunity to explore attunement, cooperation, communication, but also flexibility and compromise to collectively attain a “safe net”.

Both workshops will be held primarily in English, but some translation to German is possible.

On Tuesday, 26 and Wednesday, November 27 from 15:00 to 21:30, there will be a final Open Studio, which will also offer the opportunity to participate hands-on in net creation in a looser format.

More about the projects on the new website:

Re Capitulating. queer

What it is all about? "To recapitulate means to repeat something in a structured way […]. A recapitulation ]…] concerns […] historical and political events, including predicted and planned futures - again, as if what is recapitulated in this way has always been and been in this order.

To capitulate means to admit defeat in various forms of war, in general, to submit one's will to that of the opponent in a conflict. Submission also to the interpretation of the conflict on the part of the victorious opponent goes hand in hand with capitulation, and that also means: with the opponent's recapitulation of the conflict.

At present […] before or during the outbreak of large-scale military conflicts on a global scale, irreconcilable recapitulations of history have been positioned, also in various narratives in and on capitalism. In and on queer movements and processes.

Which statements, procedures and tactics can be identified or invented historically and currently on the part of a 'queer' against the capitalist world order? Which assertions, explanations and practices of capitalist ideology need to be analyzed in relation to queer movements between identity and non-identity?

Again, and asked differently: How do 'queer' and capitalism intersect or connect?

What could that mean: "queering capitalism"? […] How do queer and capitalism recapitulate (each other)? Has there been, is there or will there be capitulation(s)? What is to be traced or outlined here in a new recapitulation?"
